The first-ever Nobel Prize in Physiology was awarded to I. P. Pavlov. After receiving it for research of digestion, he stated in his Nobel speech: "Practically speaking, we are interested in only one thing in our life—in our mental content." A new way to study this content was the acquired reflexes discovered by him.
"Pavlov's bell," forcing the dog to salivate before the appearance of the food it expected, made him famous all over the world. However, he did not find a satisfying answer to the question burning in his mind: "How does the brain matter produce a subjective phenomenon?"
